Podgorica Museum District receives an honorable mention at the International Architecture Awards 2026

9 August 2026

The Podgorica Museum District by a-fact architecture factory has received an Honorable Mention at the International Architecture Awards 2026, organised by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Now in its 21st edition, the International Architecture Awards recognise significant new works of architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning from around the world. The 2026 programme attracted submissions from leading international practices, with an international jury selecting approximately 190 projects from a shortlist of more than 500 entries.

Podgorica Museum District was recognised in the Museums and Cultural Buildings category, adding a new distinction to the international recognition the project has received since a-fact won the competition for the new cultural district of the Montenegrin capital.

Designed by a-fact architecture factory with LAND, Maffeis Engineering and Charcoalblue, the project brings together the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Natural History Museum and the wider Arts & Culture district. Conceived at an urban scale, the proposal establishes a shared framework for cultural institutions and public space, contributing to the transformation of this part of Podgorica.

The International Architecture Awards recognition places the project within a broad international selection spanning architecture, landscape and urban planning, and further extends the dialogue around Podgorica Museum District beyond the context in which it was originally conceived.
